    Cooling pad for SZ series

    Hi all!

    My SZ-770 become extremely loud and can be used as waffle maker sometimes.

    I've disassembled it and cleaned all the dust using compressed air, but it's too hot and too noisy.

    I'm thinking about buying a cooling pad to partially solve the problem. But most of pads have fans on the bottom and I'm not sure that it will fix my problem.

    Can anyone recommend a good pad for SZ series?

    Your SZ fan need to replace. I have replace mine one and my colleague one myself. After replacing the fan, you do not need any cooling pad especially running window 7.

    How did it go installing Windows 7 on your SZ? Also witch model do you have?

    Fans on the bottom are OK :) that's how all cooling pads are built.
    If you check the accessories thread - you should get a coolin padthat roughly allings with the vents on the laptop - but it doesn't have too.
    One thing to focus on - make sure the "top" is some metal - solid aluminium tends to be a favorite used by several manufacturers.

    I wonder why the fan would break out of nowhere...
    Dust? Improper cleaning?
    (I know they can break, out old Asus became very noisy... and cleaning & taking it apart didn't change anything (I got curious once we replaced the lappy) - broke since)

    All the information for Windows 7 is strewn around the Sony forum - you'll need to do a bit of research.

    Not on the NVidia in speed mode I hope - that may be a failing graphics card :(

    This is quite scary :) since this is my primary working tool.
    Exactly on Speed mode!

    I'm using SpeedFan 4.39 to monitor CPU/GPU temp with standard readings something like CPU 120 and GPU 160.

    During overheating CPU temp goes up to 180-185! and GPU is not higher than that. That's how I out ruled GPU at the first place.

    I would appreciate your thoughts!

    I think for this GPU the max temp maybe around the same as the CPU - but if the CPU is hotter - it may be a fan issue or something else.

    However: All 8400 NVidia cards have a design flaw which means that heat cycles start to damage the solder and thus the card.
    Shortly before it fails people have reported an increase in temperature.
