Im about to buy a new sony vaio f and im currently using an old vaio z model. i wonder if theres a good way to move my win7 settings / apps / files to the new vaio f without installing everything from the beginning. i do know that i can use apps such as norton ghost etc, but those apps will also transer all the "old drivers" using the vaio z and replace them with the vaio f drivers.

    any tip?

It's called Windows Easy Transfer, and is on your Start menu.

If you're moving from 32 bit to 64 bit you have no option but to do a fresh install of everything - they're different OS kernels, so different programs.

Back up your documents, pictures, music etc, but then everything else will have to be done from scratch.

(this is why you can't do an in place upgrade of 32 bit to 64 bit Windows, only between different editions)
