Wow, how many posts have been made so far asking for this? And the answer has been every time, NO. They might squeeze in an i7 CPU in the FW/AW but not anytime soon. Sony has never used quad-core CPUs and chances are we'll be waiting for i5 dual-core CPUs until Sony updates the models with the newest hardware.

And why is everyone so obsessed with the i7 CPUs? The latest Core 2 Duo CPUs are perfectly fine.

If they are fine, then why are the other manufacturer's bothering to update or create all new models with the processor? ;)

When other manufacturers are releasing Core i7 notebooks, you can't help but notice Sony isn't and if/when they will.

Because most people are obsessed with having the latest and greatest technologies even when the day-to-day usage is only marginally improved that the improvement is barely noticeable. It's the same with people obsessing with DDR2-800 vs. DDR3-1066 RAM. Yes, I know my CPU is 1066-capable but since my RAM is only 800, it is being underutilized but honestly, who cares? You won't be seeing any difference in day-to-day use.

And since people are obsessed with this, companies realized that they can increase their sales when updated hardware comes out because they can advertise, "NOW WITH THE LATEST INTEL CPU TECHNOLOGY" and charge premium for marginal performance gains.

Because Core 2 Duo is old and we are ready to move on.

Early 2010. They will use Arrandale Core i7 cpu's.

Yes BUT the i7 CPUs now are power-hungry and produce a lot of heat, yet people still insist on asking when Sony is going to use them when we know that Sony generally uses less powerful CPUs to keep the heat down (even on their massive AW).

The I7 will be desirable when it is a 'true' mobile processor. I would call it a hybrid right now. The machines with it today are quite a bit big - very heavy and have horrid battery life. So what if everyone else is making it - even if Sony offered one up - this is not a fully mature product for a laptop. The laptops with them right now are really no more than desktop replacements.

I fault Sony for not allowing a better vido card upgrade - but not for the lack of an I7 at this point in time.
