    Hi Guys
    I need some help.
My Sony Vaio Notebook VGN-NR140e has some pretty huge black blobs and one shatter spot on the LCD....How did it happen? Don't ask lol

So while waiting for the replacement LCD to get here (tuesday or wednesday it looks like) I need to hook up an external monitor. I use the VAIO for work away from work.

I have an ACER LCD monitor (i can supply a model number if its necessary)
which is currently hooked up to my mac mini. I unplugged the acer cable from the mac, powered down my vaio and plugged in the cable to the port on my vaio, powered back up and hit : fn + f7 (which i read somewhere else will toggle from vaio to my external) but nothing happened on the external.

My LCD is far too cracked and screwed to see any thing on the screen--i mean i see the mouse moving but the mouse tracks are like...lines lol so i can't actually get to the control panel to change it to an external monitor.

Am I just totally hosed for the next 4 days? I can do SOME of my work on my mac but the rest has to be on the pc :(

    Thx!

I had this problem w/ my sz220 before I got a replacement LCD. What you need to do is make the external monitor the default over the built-in LCD by taking off the keyboard (just use a flathead screwdriver) and finding the plug where the built-in LCD connects to the video card. Just unplug that connector and the external monitor should now function.

    yea vista

i was going say if i can SEE any part of my screen id be able to get in to the control panel to make it so i can use the external.

im thinking what octagon said might work--though it'll be kinda messy looking with computer guts everywhere lol I think that might do the trick. Since the vaio vista wont have 2 displays competing with each other--unplugging the broken one and keeping the acer port plug plugged in it should just go straight to the acer, that'll be the default now.

i'll gladly take any other suggestions to avoid having the vaio all open like that (part of the reason the screen ended up this way was because of my 2 year old  toddler--im scared to have vital vaio organs out in reach of curious hands)

What happens if you plug the external in and then close the lid of your laptop?

go to mobility center and choose "connect to a display" or something like this.
