Okay, so this camera takes decent 1.3 MP stills (though they are much more washed out looking that other built-in cams I have seen.) But what the hell is with the video quality? The resolution is awful. Even at the highest resolution. It looks like I'm looking out of a very dirty window.

My friend's Gateway is a 1.3 MP too, but the video must be close to 1.3 as well. It is really crisp and clear on his. Not only that, taking pictures/video in low lighting conditions is awful. The worst I have seen on any webcam. The lighting in general on this thing is so bad, if you have a tan you look like you live in Alaska.

I'm guessing there is no way to fix this. Since I really like to use my cam to take pics and do video diaries it looks like I'm gonna have to buy a clip on. Probably the Logitech Quickcam Pro for Notebooks. There goes another $84.

BTW, I have the Sony Vaio FZ Series notebook. I love everything else about this laptop, but this is the worst webcam I have ever seen.

I did do that and it did improve the picture greatly. Thanks! It's still not the greatest cam, but it's better than it was.

the SZ webcam isn't much better. they really have to improve this on future models.

but sincerely, if you are looking for high-quality video capture and video-conferencing, go for a dedicated camera. you may also benefit from the logitech cam with the skype-high-quality video service.

yeah sony needs to improve the motion eye. mine is grainy with random vertical lines even in bright outdoor conditions...

the dell 2.0mp cams are very well made.

yeah, the sony cam isnt great....but its acceptable for a video call...theyre not meant for taking stills and making video clips really. i know other laptops allow u to do this, and the results are very good. but this is meant just for video conferencing and basically using it as a web camera, and for that, i think it does the job alright. im not complaining. compared to some other mid-range cams, it handles low light well, at a very good frame rate, even though the grain increases during this mode
