    Hi there,

My assistant just ordered a 17" Sony Vaio VGN-AR170 last Sunday (8/6). When we ordered, it said it was currently out of stock but would begin production on 8/7. Then, after ordering and up through today...it's shown it as still remaining "out of stock" with ship date of "unknown". She spoke with a rep on Tuesday who said they were already working on her order supposedly...but I don't always trust reps.

I was wondering what others' experiences have been with things like this? Are they like Dell, where you get it on your doorstep before the web even shows it shipped? And how long does it usually take to receive it? She's working on some big projects for me over the next 4 weeks and I was hoping she'd have a lightening fast laptop to use...

Thanks in advance for your help/input!

    CJ :)

The Sony website isn't great at communicating much of anything.

I ordered a customized SZ on a Friday night and it shipped the following Wednesday. The website said nothing about production status until it shipped, so I was pleasantly surprised by Sony's efficiency. The rep who took my order (the Sonystyle website sucks) told me that ordering by phone expedites shipping.
