    Hello.
    I need your help.
    I bought a SONY VAIO VGN-FZ290EGS notebook.
The type of DVD/CD-ROM is PIONEER DVD-RW DVR-K17 ATA.
    I can read, but I can't write CD/DVD.
When I am trying to write some data with NERO , I don't know why, but burning speed is only 2x ( is it not strange???? because DVD+R Write is 8x max, and for DVD+R is 1x to 16x).
However, the process of burning goes normally, and in the end Nero says that the process was finished successfully.
After that, I take DVD and again put it in DVD ROM. The DVD was spoiled. And the computer doesn't recognize the DVD.
I don't know what to do.
    Please help me.
    Regards, Samvel

My first guess would be that the media you're using isn't compatible with the drive and/or firmware you're using. Try searching for firmware updates for your burner first. If that doesn't resolve it, try using some other brand of media.

If it's happening with latest firmware and all sorts of differents discs, I'm afraid the problem might be with the hardware. :(

Yes, it's a media compatibility issue, it happened to me, I was using TDK DVD blank media and after burning dvd's the system showed that it was succesfully but it wasn't, bought Sony DVD's and now is burning without problems.

    Hi.

I had a pioneer in my laptop and most of my 16x media would only burn at 4x and i could not find any newer firmware, it`s a shame as i have used pioneer for many years in my desktop computers.

I now only buy liteon dvd-rw drives as they seem to support the most media, and a lot of laptop manufactures use rebranded liteon drivers, eg my sony dvd-rw is actually a liteon.

    Regards

    John.
