Heya all, Yet another problem with my FE-590, Its QSI SBW-243 no longer reads CD's or burns them, It still reads DVD's with no problems at all, Ive tried upgrading and downgrading the devices firmware but to no effect. Any ideas on ways to fix this?.

Did you try uninstalling the IDE drivers? Could have just went bad which has been known to happen.

OMG I have the exactly the same problem.

I sent my SZ to sony repair on Jan 20, 2007 and still haven't got it back yet.

Sony Tech support call me and said it was a software problem.

I thought I might be able to buy a new one and attach the bezel to it though I dont know if it would work. Hope they fix it for ya Ch28Kid and if they tell you how lemmie know. Cool pic by the way, makes me think of Amelie for some reason.

    Hello,

i had exactly the same problem. The repair changed my drive. It is definitely a hardware error.

    Greetings

Matt H1 - I'm new to this site - just found it searching for none other than a fix for my Sony FRV 35 (It's old, I know) - But thus far it has worked great...until... I could no longer read or burn CD's, although it seems to be a selective problem. I get a message that says it's an administrator issue (hello? I AM the administrator thanks). But the kicker is that my hubby's Dell PC is giving the same error. Not sure what is going on but it could be some Windows update problem. I just went from IE7 back to IE6 thinking that was what was different, but so far that doesn't seem to be the issue either. This is infuriating. I've uninstalled and reinstalled the drivers, as I had heard some of the Windows update bugs were causing an error there. It was suggested I download a CD Burning service (Try Cheetah if you haven't already - they do a 15 day trial and it's very reasonable to purchase). It's a nice interface but I still can't read the #%$(&# CD's. Still searching for an answer...
