I unsinstalled the roxio medial creator software and restarted my notebook. The pioneer DVD drive disappeared from Computer. Also under the device manager, windows reported missing or corrupt driver.

I reinstalled roxio, sonic softwares. Now the drive is back. How come these sofwares supply the driver files for the pioneer dvd drive? Has anyone done this uninstallation and encountered any problems?

They don't supply the driver, but more than likely they are screwing up the reigistry. Go to the top of this page, in the search box type "Vista DVD Registry" without the quotes. It's an issue that has come up here several times.

I think this is more of a problem with vista rather than the third party software. Vista seems to have the correct device driver file, but keeps on saying corrupt/missing driver.

Did you check the registry issue?

If so, you might want to set a restore point, then go into device manager, delete the DVD drive and reboot. This will allow Vista to find the DVD drive again and start afresh.

System restore, reinstall of the roxio software worked for me. I diddn't try the registry deletion method. Thanks.
