    Hello,

I just bought a VGN-N250E/B laptop from Circuit City and the quality of DVD playback is very bad. The image is pixelated and the color transition is abrupt (similar to a low quality jpeg image) at any window size. The frame rate doesn't appear to be affected. I tried different movies and different players (Windows Media Player, Intervideo WinDVD that came with the laptop, and VideoLAN VLC) and the quality is equally bad. Otherwise the laptop seems to work quite well with other applications.
Could you please suggest some diagnostic tests so I can figure out if it's a hardware problem (DVD drive, video memory, LCD) or a software problem (Vista performance, drivers). Hopefully I won't have to return the laptop.

    The configuration is:
    Intel® Core™ Duo Processor T2250, 1GB (512MBx2) PC2-4200, DVD±RW (DVD Read: 8x max), WXGA LCD 15.4” 1280 x 800 XBRITE-ECO™ Technology, Intel® Graphics Media Accelerator 950, 120GB HD

    Thank you,
    Bogdan
