I own the VPCCW27FX from Best Buy. Last night, after burning a DVD, I experienced the blue screen of death. I noticed that my DVD writer only burns at 2.4x speed. I called Sony Customer Support and they could not provide me the with the optical speed of my drive and could not help me increase my burning speed. To the other people who own this computer or a similar model, what is your drive speed? Is there something wrong with my computer? It takes me 23 minutes to burn a DVD, a lot slower than my old Toshiba laptop.

What burning software are you using? And I believe that model has a Blu-Ray reader correct? Also, on the BSOD, what was the error saying?

I am using Roxio Easy Media Creator 10 LJ. Yes, it has a blu-ray reader. The BD drive: Mata BD-CMB UJ141AS. When I got the BSOD, the screen said "OS System not found", but the Vaio went to repair mode and when it was done, I could start my system normally. On the Nero DiscSpeed 4, it could reach the 8x speed and the results show an average 6x speed but when I use Roxio, the maximum speed is only 2.4x. Is there any way for me to increase the burning speed? No new updates were needed for my driver.

The BD drive is a Mata, not Mata.

I couldn't find any information on that drive through google, so it must be a new OEM only drive. In the settings in Roxio, is there a setting for how fast you want to burn DVD's? Also if you're not burning movies, there is a great program called ImgBurn. It's freeware, and it has always worked great for me. I think the bax burning speed with the drive for DVD's is probably going to be 12x. But on the BSOD.. that's an interesting one... has it only done it the one time?

It's not a Mata, it's a M a t s h i t a. Had to spell it this way, since it's coming up as Mata on the post. I did change the DVD write speed in the Roxio to 8x but it defaults to a 2.4x. I'll try the ImgBurn. Thanks for your help!

Yeah give ImgBurn a try. It will also give you the details of what speed the media is capable at.

FWIW, there was an optical fix on the sony site for the CW the other day which I took. You might try Vaio Central/Support on your machine and see if that doesn't fix the drive issue........

ImgBurn for me gets my 27FX up to about 7x by the time it reaches the end of a 4.7gb disc, but it slowly ramps up over the course of the burn.

    Thanks,
