I've been looking at the VAIO FZ140E for some time now to replace my desktop and was hesitant waiting for BB or Future Shop to carry them. Well, last weekend I went to the store to see it in person. Very nice and I was ready to get one when to my disapointment I noticed it does not have HDMI or DVI out that I can connect my monitor. I have an LG L226WA monitor with VGA, Composite RCA, DVI and HDMI inputs, I'd like to connect the notebook using one of the "digital" inputs since I tried VGA with my desktop and you can really tell the difference with this monitor. Is there any way to convert iLink or S-Video to DVI/HDMI or maybe composite? I don't want to use a VGA->DVI converter since I suppose it will not look better than a regular VGA->VGA cable.
I guess you can't change the output in the VGA port from the video driver to output a digital signal on the VGA connector (just like the sound drivers do to put different signals on the different jacks, e.g. change from stereo to 5.1, etc) and then use an adapter (read adapter not converter) to connect to DVI in the monitor.
The only FZ with HDMI out is the 180/190 and is over a $1000 more in price, with features I don't need. I also didn't see a port replicator there, some notebooks have DVI out only in the port replicator (which works for me).
Any suggestions will be much appreciated.
thanks in advance

If there is no dock with DVI, and no DVI port on the notebook itself, there is no way to get DVI/HDMI out. The VGA-out port and its parts are analog and no device driver can change that.

You need an FZ config with dedicated graphics to get the HDMI out, otherwise as you say, you'll just get that port blocked off.
DVI/HDMI out off an FZ140E?
