Hi,
I have a sony vaio NS20E which has a problem with the backlight. The screen is really dark and you can just make out the display on the screen if you hold it at an angle. It works fine on an external screen.
I looked in the forums - and most people seem to suggest the inverter as the culprit. I ordered one of these but was disapointed to find that it did not fix the problem.
Next suggestion was the actual backlight, which required a new screen. I ordered one of these but the problem is still there. I have checked the cabling from the motherboard to the inverter, to make sure it is connected fine. Tried wiggling the cable to see if the screen flickers - but nothing.
What else can it be? Did I just get unlucky and get a faulty inverter?
What else can I try?
Thanks for any help.
Ben

Magnetic switch that turns the backlite off when lid is closed
And you can check for input dc voltage on the inverter

Magnetic switch sounds a good shout
Cheers.
Any ideas where it is on a Sony?
Cheers,

Ever figure this out? I've got the same problem on my sony sz220. I dropped my backpack and now the screen is very dark (can just make out the desktop icons)...switched the inverter and screen from my sz645 and still has the problem.

Dark screen - not inverter or backlight
