i m worried that i wont be happy with it because it is 13.3 in. Its seems small but my friends tell me that i will get used to it. My friends has a macbook, and he said it was small at first, but he got used to it and loved it after 2 weeks.

SO what i m trying to say is, convince me people that i m not going to regret it =/

Tell your friend to let you hold his macbook

The width of the screen is fine. The length doesn;t give you as much above the fold window, but it's not that big of an issue. Scroll bars fix that.

Do you want portability? I use a 14.1" screen, the old 4:3 aspect ratio, which they have stopped making since transitioning to widescreen. To me, getting the SR would mean the resolution is lower, and I lose vertical height, but it'll just require a bit of readaptation to it. I've use macbook before because my school rents out these laptops, and the screen is smaller, and it's a bit harder to keep two things open at the same time, but it works.

Well as for portability, i don't really mind, but i don't think i will be taking it out of the house too often, maybe like once or twice a month for school, since i m still a junior in a high school. So i will use it as a desktop for like a years or 2, even thought i have a desktop computer.

I suggest either SR (4lbs) or FW (6.7lbs), because none of the ones in between seem to have a discrete GPU, assuming you want to play games :). It depends on what you would like to use it for. The FW will have a higher level GPU than the SR (I believe so). I've only looked closely at the SR, as I'm aiming for something I can carry around. I used to have a big Vaio and it was nice (big screen), but lugging it to school every day was a pain. Sorry, if this is not really helping you commit to the SR =/ Maybe someone can offer a second opinion. But I think the SR will be fine.

I just returned mine...text was just too small for my 51 yr old eyes. It's a sweet little unit. Nice build, nice look. I wouldn't call it rugged, but pretty nice. The keyboard area & monitor are very nice looking. Not the gauwdy shiny black plastic that so many use.

The screen display is the best I've seen, as far as clarity. The one slight flaw was the lack of color vobrancy. Seems a bit washed-out looking. I have a Fujitsu N6470, & it's got an incrediblly beautiful screen with nice full color.

So it came down to readability to me. I'm not a gamer. I do alot of internet & email, so text size is very important to me. I liked the SONY so much though, that I ended up ordering an FW with the HI-Color monitor. (No longer available. I found one on Sony's Outlet section.) It should arrive today.

    Good luck on your decision!

take a look at this website that shows pixel density. compare display sizes vs resolutions that you've used in the past and you get a pretty good idea of what density (ppi) is comfortable on your eyes.

what is the difference between 13.3 screen at 1280 x 800, or a 15.4 screen at 1280 x 800, other than 2 inches, i looked at your site but got confused, it doesn't take much, thx

The stuff on the 15.4" screen will look huge and ugly..

At the same resolution, everything on the 15.4" will be bigger, which is why larger displays usually have higher resolution.

...I'd kinda just say get a new desktop... unless those days you do bring it out you really need to.

The FW makes a solid desktop replacement, but can be rather heavy to lug around, though I'm of the opinion that anything above 14.1" is that way.

Ahh, this is killing me, i have been so excited that i was getting a laptop, but now i m getting the jitters, sigh, why didn't sony release a 15.4 in laptop, it would have been so much easier.

    I just ordered mine....

    SR290CTO - black.
    P8600 2.4ghz
    320gb 5400rpm
    Radeon 3470
    Vista hp. x64
    4gb ram.
    extended warranty with AD.

$200 coupon and they have free shipping right now.

some thoughts: I wanted the 2.53ghz processor for the 6mb L2 cache, but decided not to get it because it has a 10watt more power drain, plus I doubt the cpu difference would be noticeable. Could of saved some money buying ram from newegg, but honestly its not worth the hassle to me right now - (even though I've upgraded laptops and built several new desktops). I also chose the 5400 drive to save a little bit of battery life there. Got the 320 so I can dual boot. Bought the extended warranty with Accidental damage because I got burned badly on a previous laptop that died right out of warranty.
Hopefully in a couple years, bigger cheaper ssd's will be out.
