I've a dead spot on my SZ's screen. It's not a dead pixel and it's the size of the tip of a pencil (and the color of pencil lead). I think it was created when the lid was closed and the screen pressed too heavily on a key (F5 perhaps.) Anything I can do to get rid of it?

if it's black, then you've got a DEAD pixel which it not recoverable. but if it's other color than black, then you have a stuck pixel which is possible to get fixed. ---> http://www.jscreenfix.com/basic.php
