I just bought a Sony FW139E/H on clearance at Best Buy for $750. It is this model - Amazon Link

Haven't opened the box, so I can still return it. Thoughts?

    It's an HD 3470.

EDIT: Sorry I guess I put this thread in the wrong place.

Does that price include tax? Which bestbuy store did you buy it from?

This deal is, one one hand, what I was afraid of, on the other hand, a deal that will save me a lot of money.

Why I am afraid of? Because I want HiColor screen and the only affordable model that has Hicolor screen is VGN-FW190EEH sold by newegg for $1200. I already placed an order from newegg which has not been shipped yet and thus I can still cancel. I used a promotional coupon and it came to $1150. I am afraid because due to such a great deal I may have to content with Eco screen.

Why this deal will save me a lot of money? Because, although I want Hicolor so much, this laptop has the same specs (except the fact that it has one step lower processor, which I don't care) for $750. The price difference between the one on newegg and this one is $400! Does Hicolor justify that much price difference? I don't think so!

**** Sony! It really knows how to exploit its customers. One one hand it sells the world's first 16.4 inch screen along with 16:9 aspect ratio and whopping 1600 x 900 resolution, arguably world's currently most movie-centric laptop, but on the other hand it offers two types of screens, one of which (Eco) is not commensurate for a movie-centric laptop, and the other of which is included almost only in the most expensive top-of-the-line model around the world. I can understand Hicolor screen missing in FW models that don't have Blu-ray player, but all models that have blu-ray player (except one) also don't have Hicolor screen.

And now especially low end FWs have great sales and you end up with such dilemmas I am having now.

Could you please tell which particular Best Buy store did you buy it from? Which state and city?

We may use it for a price match claim.

Did you get the Eco screen or the Hi-color screen? That price is amazing! Where did you get it?

This price doesn't look right. No way best buy would have this low price. Please don't post false information here.

It is even cheaper than that r-tard! If you are not interested in deals, don't even read the thread.

After reading this thread I googled and found out the following:

    http://forums.slickdeals.net/showthread.php?threadid=910165

Then I thought that may be this great sales are going only in MN. I then called Bestbuy.com customer service, first inquired the cheapest price this item sold nationwide and have been told that Mankota, MN sells it for $689! Even less than the OP paid!

Anyhow, then I asked for price match, but bestbuy.com's 3 separate representatives declined my request. I then called Mankota, MN store (which has still one left) but they did not accept shipping it to me. I called around 6-7 stores close to Mankota, MN (because, although each store may have a different price match policy, most of them require the "local area" criterion, which is either 30 miles or the stores that pop up on bestbuy.com when you locate a store with ZIP code), some of which declined to price match, some of which accepted to price match but rejected to ship. BTW, most of them has this item out of stock and none of them were selling under 1000 dollars. In fact currently almost all of them sells for the bestbuy.com price, which is 1149.

This is an entirely YMMV situation, though I did as best as I can do.

Okay, went back by today and they were sold out. The display unit and sign are gone. It is definitely an FW139E/H - it has an Xbrite-Eco screen which is fine for me.

I got it for $690 or 695ish - $750 with tax. The guy told me that he's been told to "clear them out." Well, I guess he did his job.

I bought mine at a Best Buy near Tulsa, OK if you want to try to price match. They were scrambling around when I bought mine - I was afraid they wouldn't give me the deal.

Like you said - I think it was a YMMV. They had 5 left in stock last night when I bought mine and I went by again this morning and they were gone.

Thank you for sharing with us your experience. After seeing your post I located two stores in Tuslo, OK on Bestbuy.com. One is midtown Tuslo store and the other is SW Tuslo store. Probably you bought it from the latter because their price was 689 and they were out of stock. The midtown store has only one left, they accepted to apply price match and even to ship it to me, until they heard that I live in MD.

I spoke with the manager and asked him why they can't ship it to MD but ship it to somewhere in OK, as in both circumstances there is the risk of laptop being broken/damaged regardless of where it is shipped to. He gave me a very logical answer. He said that they do not use UPS, FedEX or et cetera to ship items within OK because they deliver themselves with their geek squad vehicles, and thus assume the liability without neither them nor the customer incurring insurance costs. However, when it comes to shipping something to another state, then they have to use UPS, FedEx et cetera and as a reputable company he would not ship it uninsured, which would cost a lot to the customer. Lastly I offered him to ship it without insurance, as I said him that nothing would happen to a laptop that comes with protective polystyrene foams and that all types of electronics are shipped from China in this condition and arrives intact to their final destination, but he kindly said as such a reputable company's manager he cannot ship it to a customer a laptop uninsured.

Final words: I consider that this situation is no more a typical YMMV situation and that it is almost impossible to convince any bestbuy store to ship a laptop to another state, because this is not a common/everyday situation for them and more importantly they do not have any arrangements for these type of situation with any company such as UPS, FedEx. That is the main reason in my opinion.

In this case I am not going to cancel my newegg order for VGN-FW190EEH which is going to be shipped tomorrow and will arrive on Thursday. At least for $400 difference I will have a slightly better CPU, but a lot better screen.

PS. I called another store which had FW139 available in their store and they did not accept to match the price and shipping the item to MD regardless of the price. I then did not call any other store as I gave up calling due to the reasons mentioned above.

If anyone got an extra or is in position to pick up another one of these, I'd be very interested in working something out so I can have one :D

Does anyone actually have this lappy? Any thoughts?

I find it interesting how BB USA's price is much higher than BB Canada's...hmmm....
