    hello everyone

i've bought VGN-NR11S/S recently and i am planning to downgrade it to good old XP. vista isn't *that* bad, but the main reason of downgrade is vista's incompatibility with software i used to work with. besides, i always do a clean install on new machines. oh, and all of this bloatware - i want to get rid of it, obviously.

i did a little research and i found that downgrade is pretty much possible on vaio NR notebooks. but i just want to make sure that my NR11S/S will work after all. i do have my 2 recovery dvds created straightaway, but you know - i'd like to install clean xp instead.

any advices, links and such would be much appreciated!

    thanks in advance

Looking to do the same with the VGN-NR11S/S for my daughter. Looking to downgrade to XP Pro.

    Questions:
1: If all fails after trying to slipstream a disc to get past the sata problem. Or I am succesful in the change Can I get back to vista easy enough if need be?

2: Will this change avoid the warranty?

I have made the recovery disc.

Any advice on the driver side of things much appreciated.

    Thanks in advance.

Hey thanks bITmApp for the reply,

After going through various threads about downgrading vista I have decided to give my daughters lappy a miss this time. She would be lost without it. Now if it was mine the story would be different.

    Shame on you Sony!!!

Give us the chance to revert back to old faithfull XP. Post the drivers we need.

Was going to upgrade my desktop soon with a shop purchase. Maybe it might be wiser if I build my own with a the OS i want.

Is there some law that is stopping Sony from letting us down grade?

    Had my little moan.

    http://www.vaio-link.com/os/xp/downg...GB_cons&m=2869

    but it says :

Dear customer, it seems that there is a problem with the details you have provided.

Please make sure all fields are correctly filled in.
Please make sure your product code and serial number are correctly filled in.
Please make sure that you selected the correct download page for your Vaio model.

    ---------------------------

What are main precautions should i need to take before installing xp -- as i want to erase my hard disk completely ..

    Hello,

I've just downgraded my VGN-NR11S to XP successfully.

I have everything working (including backlight):
    Audio (with on-screen display)
    Backlight control
    Card reader
    Chipset
    Graphics
    Lan
    Modem
    Touchpad
    Wireless.

All seems great at the moment, and I've zipped all the drivers I needed and uploaded to RS.

    http://rapidshare.com/files/93970072/VGN-NR11S_Driver_Package_for_WXP.zip.html
    (~50MB)

These are meant for the VGN-NR11S, but probably work with similar models.

To control the backlight, you use WIN + F5/F6, rather than the Fn Key.

    Enjoy Windows XP!

PS: I recommend installing XP on a separate partition (as I have done) and dual boot, see this tutorial: http://apcmag.com/5485/dualbooting_vista_and_xp

I downgraded my NR11S/S using the thread for NR110 and the drivers provided by Lineapp.

    Thanks Lineapp.

Both NR11 and NR110 use the same SATA drivers - ICH8M.

I'm not sure if the card readers are working because I'm not using them. Overall, so far, it's working fine.

There's a problem with nlite after the installation. The laptop tried to look for nhelper.exe which is not there. I found a thread that suggest deleting the registry for nlite and nhelper. I've done that and it seems to solve the problem.
