I just bought a new sony laptop and when I first started it, I forgot to put in the battery and just plugged in the AC adapter. So near the end of the setup of the system language and everything, I got a blue screen saying something about a power state failure and the computer shutdown. I immediately put the battery in and turned back on the computer and after a while, it was fine. So should i be concerned if i permanently damaged the computer or anything?

No, you did no damage. The machine is designed to operate without the battery in place. The bluescreen most likely came about when the "setup" was attempting to configure the power management for the battery.

Did the setup run after you put the battery back in the machine? If so you should be OK. If not you might want to consider restoring the machine back to its "out of the box" state using the hidden recovery partition and starting over. That way you can be certain the power management functionality is set up correctly.

After I restarted it. It went straight to the Vista setup and not whatever it was doing before. So I have no idea if something is wrong with it now. But all I have to do is the recovery thing and it will start all over?

Yes. On most Sony models if you hit the F10 key immediately after you power it up it should boot up in recovery mode. You will see a menu option that allows you to restore the machine back to its "out of the box" state.

Is there a way to check if its configured properly without using the recovery partition? It seems to be working fine. Is there anything else after the power configuration during the setup that I may have missed?

No clue how you might be able to check. That is why I suggested doing a recovery now while it would be less painfull. If you wait a while and then find out there WAS something else that might have been missed, it is going to be more of a hassle.

If I were in your position, the uncertainty would prompt me to just go ahead and recover.

Recover the entire system or only C drive? And I don't need anything else? I can just straight up recover using the program built in? With all the drivers and everything working?

If you don't have anything yet that you need to retain on the machine, I would go with the entire drive option.
