I would like to know the difference between S170 and S260.
Which one is newer?
The reason I'm asking is that in datavis.com, the S170 is selling for $2300 and S260 for $2100 with $100 mail-in rebate, so the price difference is $300.
I could not find the difference in spec in their website, see below links:
S170P:

S260P:

I could not find any mention about S170 in Sony's website. Does it mean that S170 is older, so that Sony's website does not mention it anymore? However, if that the case, how come S170 is more expensive than S260?
Thanks a lot.
PS: How about the S270 model? Compare to S260 and S170?

Gosh, we should have a sticky or FAQ for this.
S170 is indeed older. It belongs to the first generation (AKA Summer 2004 models) of S series with S150. However, S170 is a customizable model that allows the consumers to pick one's own specs, so there is no fixed specs on S170 and the price goes up with the specs customized.
S260 and S270 are the new generation of S, AKA Fall 2004 models. S270 is the customizable one while S260 is the express model. Obviously, a customized S170 could have higher specs than S260 and therefore higher price, even though it is an older model.
Because S170 and S270 are customizable, there really is no way to compare them unless you lay down all the specs. However, they are pretty much the same machine if you configure them with the same options.
