Anybody had SZ391 or similar ?

I'm wondering what are the differences between regular Carbon Fiber (SZ360, SZ450, etc.) and Premium one (SZ 391 and SZ491) ?

Is it just the colour or is it something else ?

the process is different and lets you see the carbon fibre better.

If you do some searching through the forums about this, there are some very informative posts about the actual engineering processes behind carbon fiber weaving.

isnt carbon fiber a 'weave' to begin with? so all the premium version does it let you see the weave?

I got a full explanation of this from a rep at a SonyStyle store. Having the carbon fiber casing (premium or non) is really important because of the very thin screens on the Vaio SZ's. However, the difference between the premium and non-premium carbon (at least according to the guy at Sony) is nominal. The premium is a bit stronger, and it also has a grainier brown color (which I personally think is less attractive than the normal carbon fiber). You can definitely feel that the premium is a bit more sturdy, but for the price, I just don't think it's worth it (and an employee from Sony agrees).

Well, the premium fiber saved my laptop so I'm all for it. Plus, it looks nicer with the weave.
