    Greetings !

What are the differences between generations of SZs ?

    I know this:

    Processor:
    SZ360 - C2D T7200@2GHz
    SZ160 & 260 - CD [email protected]

    Memory:
    SZ360 - 2x1GB
    SZ160 & 260 - 2x512MB

    HDD:
    SZ260 & 360 - 120GB
    SZ160 - 100GB

Are there any more differences ?

    What I'm not sure:

    1. SZ160 & SZ260 - are they also made with carbon fiber, have LED backlight and less weight (3.72lbs), same as SZ360 ?

I mean, if I don't need C2D processor, would it be wiser to buy, for example, SZ260 for $1400 and skip SZ360 with $2100 price ?

Thank you in advance ! :)

I'm not sure how it all gets pinned down to specific model numbers, but there were a number of build-issue problems associated with the earlier model SZs (the SZ1XX line, in particular). It would probably be worthwhile to get some feedback from people around here, or do some more forum searching.

I remember, in particular, lots of talk about the spacebar on early SZs not registering presses on the right-most edge. I also know that there are lots of users over here that are very happy with their SZ260s!

I believe the same materials were used in the construction of all three.

By the way, kindly report if your SZ360 has any problems? Given the price of SZ260 (premium, Coreduo 1.83, RAM 1G) and SZ330 (standard, C2D 2.0, RAM 2G) are more or less the same, what could you suggest me to buy?
    Thanks

I love my SZ360 ---- it has no problems that bother me.

Prior to my 360, I had a SZ340 that had the standard screen/casing. I ended up returning that computer for the 360 b/c of noise problems with the standard LCD screen ---- the machine would emit electronic buzzing/humming sounds whenever the screen was dimmed to anything other than max brightness (also when it was running on battery power). Noises like that drive me up the wall. I don't know if that's a feature on every SZ (or Sony, for that matter --- had a similar issue with an FJ270/b I briefly owned), but is something to consider.

Apart from that problem, the ultra-thin and ultra-bright premium screen is very, very nice.. and once you get down to the 4 lb range, 3.7 vs 4.1 lbs makes a noticable difference, in my opinion.

What is the difference in terms of the noise problems the between previous SZ340 and your current SZ360?
    Thanks for your info.

My current SZ360 does not make any electronic buzzing noises at all. My SZ340 (the standard, non-premium build) would emit buzzing noises when the screen was dimmed.

The only sounds made by my 360 come from the fan when it kicks in. Otherwise, it's quiet as a mouse.. and I'm perfectly OK with the amount of noise made by the fan (esp since fan noise falls under the 'normal and expected' categories of computer sounds ----- unlike the aforementioned buzzing).

I bought a refurb SZ260 and I have no noise or buzzing issues at all. I would have liked to have gotten the SZ360 but it was out of my budget so I went with the 260. I think their pretty much the same aside from the 260 with the Core Duo and 1GB and the 360 C2D and 2GB. Hopefully when the prices go down I will upgrade my 260 to 360 specs since they both use the same 945 board, correct me if Im wrong.

Right. The noise/buzzing issue I had was with the differences in screen type (LED-backlit premium screens vs. standard LCD screens). The 260 and 360 have identical screens.
