What is the biggest difference between these two with the exception of build materials and screen size? I was set on the Z, but the SR just seems like such a bargain. I also like the screen size of the SR.

Please help me decide what to buy!!!

    The Z is lighter,
    has longer battery life,
    has better faster ram,
    has a weaker graphics card,
    has switchable graphics

true. but with Z you are like owning two version of SR. since Z have 2 graphic mode (stamina mode - use intel gfx, while speed mode - use dedicated nvidia gfx).
weight wise, it's about 500g difference (iinm) while display is just 0.2" difference.

if i have a budget, i will go for Z.
but if for mobility and use only for school/office task, ill just get SR, provided that i have a desktop for gaming :D

Umm... i think it should be the other way around?
If you have a budget you should get the SR since its more bang for the bucks
But if you want a more portable laptop, you should get the Z

TonyTheTiger and I are like Super SR Fanboyz. haha

I think most of us SR owners would never consider the Z. It runs quite a bit more money and you are getting a very similiar laptop. Performance wise, the SR is much better bang for you buck, portability wise as well.

The Z is more of a "i have tons of cash to waste" kind of machine IMHO, because the only advantage it has over the SR is HDMI and Longer batterylife(in stamina mode).

Most people can't tell the weight difference between a 3 lb laptop and a 4lb laptop, both are **** light!

hehe, yeah, i mean, extra cash.
anyway, SR is already fine with its weight and intel gpu should sufficient enough to cater your online gaming at least (if you want some gaming).

Well, Don't forget everyone that the Z has that X-Brite Duraview screen.

Which supposedly has like, 100% saturation. Good for photoshoppers or something. Maybe photographers too if you get the bigger resolution.

Personally, they look nearly identical to me, but eh. Whatever works for some, but the Z is more made for a niche of certain people that require certain things for a laptop, etc.

I think they are both pretty decent laptops, it's all based on your needs though I think. (or money. xD)

sr has a cheaper build then the Z... I personally own both , and i notice a big difference in build as far as plastic hollow feel.. rather then the Z solid feel. x.x and i know most of yah would say it not. so yea.. just my opinion.

I'm not sure if this matters, but I don't do much in the way of gaming. The extent of my gaming would be online poker.

Aside from that it's mostly drafting documents and doing research online (I'm a third year law student). As such, I'm looking for something fairly portable, but something that I'll be able to comfortably work on all day in terms of screen size and clarity.

So the Z has a few key features and an arguably solid feel for $600? Is that a fair statement?

some reviews have said that the screen on SR has way higher contrast and brighter than the Z

if you are mostly drafting documents, consider the dpi for the sr and z too. the dpi on the z may be less suitable for text, but it's individual preference.

Some have said that it has also been washed out and dull compared to the Z as well.

It all depends on which one you order, and when you order it. The whole screen thing.

I really like my screen, much more brilliant than the screens of most anyone else at my school but that one girl who also has a smaller Vaio that almost looks like mine *her vaio lacks chiclet keyboard*.

I guess it depends on the Z, but it almost might depend on if you get the ATI option, perhaps?

Dunno what she has, but it has a regularish keyboard. It isn't chiclet at all.

Hmm, yeah, I do that as well. I think the Intel options lack that option... So meh.

I guess it really just depends. I do like my screen, even my friends are like, Wow, it looks so much nicer! D:

Would it be smart to get the ATI card? I wasn't sure whether I should do that or not based on the commentary saying it may run warmer with an advanced video card.

the intel has some options for contrast, brightness, etc.

the ATI card will run warmer and use more battery power

Based on what I'm going to use the computer for, should I get the ATI?

What you gonna use the computer for??

if you're not gonna play any games or do any 3D CAD stuff, i dont think you will need the ATI card..

with the intel graphics, your laptop runs cooler, and your battery lasts longer.

yeah a graphics card is basically for 3D graphics rendering... so if you dont game or use any other 3D design programs theres no need for one
it wont make your movies/videos/screen look better or anything

to be honest i am not sure what is saturation... there is a panel for adjusting the gamma, brightness and contrast. you can adjust those for all three primary colors all at once, or individually for each color.

by the way, just curious can you post your vista score? my intel gfx post 3.3 for "graphics" and 3.6 for "gaming".

saturation is like how vibrant your screen is.

tony, could you try the vista photo slide show, with Fade as the Theme, and see if there is any jerkiness during transition from one photo to the next? i experience jerkiness, not sure if it is the gfx card or it is just the software. because i am able to play 1080p HD trailers very smoothly.

umm i didn't experience any jerkiness...

graphics card has nothing to do with pictures..

its more likely to be your ram or cpu.. not sure.. pictures slideshow is a easy task.. it shouldnt lag at all...
