Right, I am going to get an FW Series Sony VAIO, but which model is proving to be nearly as hard as which brand and series.

I have narrowed it doewn to the FW11E and the FW21L.

Anyone here who keeps up with Sony VAIO produce will know that any new product will generally be launches with an "11" series of lines, then this moves to "21". My problem is that the FW11E would have been iwthin my budget bearing in mind the January sales, but now the "11" series is being faded out, so I don;t know whether to plump with an "11" now or wait for the "21" and pay more. The only defferences are as follows:

    The 11 has a P8400 Centrino 2 (2.26GHz x2) and a DVD-Rewrite drive.

    The 21 has a T5800 Centrino 2 (2.00GHz x2) and a Blu-Ray read/DVD-Rewrite drive.

The addition of Blu Ray makes me think to go with that one, but do you guys think that the drop from a P8400 to a T5800 will have a major impact on my day-to-day work and mild gaming.

Plus, will a T5800 be able to deal effectively with Blu-Ray movies?

    Thanks in advance

Please don't post the same thread in two different sections of the forum...

It's against forum rules. Thank you.

    Ah. Sorry about that.
I just thought it appeals to both areas.
Do either of you have an opinion on the actual issue though?

The 21L uses GDDR3 on the video card, and I think the 11E uses GDDR2. In terms of raw processing power, the difference between the two can't be any more than 10%, if that, so it all comes down to whether or not you want that bit of extra raw power or a blu-ray reader.

If you have a separate bluray player or a ps3, then just go for the 11E.

I had a similar dilemma with thw AW series in that I could have paid an extra £300 for a 2.53ghz over a 2.26ghz processor. I went for the 2.26ghz, and decided that I could buy something nice with the extra money!

    Thanks for the advice.
I was hoping someone would give me an excuse to go with the Blu-Ray, but instead you have given me one not to!
The only thing that makes me still want the Blu-Ray is that within a year or so, every film coming out will be on Blu-Ray, and if I'm going to have this laptop 3 or 4 years I'd like it to be slieghtly ahead of the times.
And the DDR3 Ram tips it!
I'm dissapointed with Sony that they cant just upgrade the E, they have to make it marginally worse in some respect to make you climb higher and pay more to get a 21 with that P8400, but I'm not going to. I think once I've removed some of the bloatware this laptop will do me just fine.
Thank you very much kind sir :)
