I custom ordered my Vaio VPC1190X from Sony. From day one, the bluetooth was unable to connect. I called Sony Tech Support in case there was something I was missing and went through Level 1 and Level 2 Tech Support. They remoted in to my laptop, downloaded the updated driver, changed all of the settings, etc. They had me do a system restore. Once I did that I called them back after it still wouldn't work and they went through all of the settings again. They determined I had a bad bluetooth part and sent someone to my house to fix it.

The technician replaced the bluetooth part and was still unable to get it to work. The technician believes it is a software/hardware/firmware conflict. I have not done much with this computer other than dump the Norton and Microsoft Works, and install Microsoft Office and Trend Micro Internet Security. Even prior to installing those programs, the bluetooth mouse (Microsoft 5000) is not detected. My smartphone is not detected. My smartphone is able to detect the mouse and the laptop, but the laptop refuses pairing. I have gone through every scenario possible - tried the Toshiba bluetooth driver pack suggested on this board, and the power setting change as well. I have tried it with the firewall disabled.

I am within my 30 day window of returning it and have pretty much decided that's what I should do, although I really love this laptop and it was a nice gift to myself. I am afraid to waste much more time on it and am a little afraid of what else might reveal itself down the road.

I am seeking advice - if it were you, what would you do? Keep it and hope for an eventual fix? Return it and reorder another one? Return it and buy something else?

    Thanks in advance!

I would return it and reorder another one.
I have the EU VPCF11C5E an the same Microsoft Bluetooth Notebook Mouse 5000. I did not change or update anything related to bluetooth and the mouse is working great. I think it must be something with your specific laptop.
