    Hello everyone,

I am new vaio user. Its been 5 months since i've been using sony vaio E series VPCEA12EN.

Today as i working on it the screen suddenly dimmed a little bit on its own. I checked the power supply, it was on. Then i immediately checked the brightness level, it was on max as usual on power supply.

Then i turned off the power supply, i was amazed to see the display stayed the same. Earlier when switched to battery mode brightness used to go down by 2 or 3 levels down automatically from max. I have restarted it many times but i am still getting the dim display even at full brightness. I can see the screen and all but its not like the bright screen it used to be before.

Please help! I'm so worried :(

    i have a vaio Z1.
I had this issue a while ago. Maybe related to your case.
On battery, a 'dark' page would automatically lower screen brightness. A 'bright' page would automatically increase screen brightness. Drove me nuts as i have selected similar screen brightness for both power from jack or battery.
Googling this problem took me to Intel Graphics and Media Control Panel in win7.
Go to Power->Power Features->Graphics Power Plan Setting->On Battery, declick "Display Power Saving Technology".
It worked. Autodim on darker pages is gone!

Yeah the autobrightness is a little wonky I disabled it too.

I did it from Vaio Control Center ->Display ->Automatic Brightness Settings

Like the two above have said, you have to turn off Auto Brightness. I know this is a fact for the Vaio Z, that if Auto Brightness is on, you can NOT adjust the screen brigthness manually. When you press the key, the thing will come up saying you have higher brightness, but in reality, nothing changes. So try turning off the auto brightness
