I have a Sony VGN-T340P (PCG-4E1L). Trying to clean up some of the pre-installed junk the loads at startup. I really have no need at the moment for the Blue tooth radio and it is just eating up my battery life.

I would like to disable the "SmartWi Connection Utility" and the "Wireless Switch Setting Utility". The problem is that if I turn off BT an reboot, BT is re enabled until I run one of these utils to turn it off.

Is there a way to permanently (software) disable the BT radio, or a command line switch I can add to the "Wireless Switch Setting Utility" so it will run and then exit after disabling the BT radio?

I have tried disabeling all BT devices in Device Manager.

    Thanks

    Jack,

    Greetings again.

Start button ---> Run... ---> Type in msconfig

Go to the startup section and disable the offending item. My thought is that this is a startup program but I am not sure. Hopefully others will chime in also on this.

    Good Luck.

    Bill,

Thanks again for posting. The problem is not how to disable the startup items but rather that the radio is always on unless these these programs run to turn it off (even if you turn it off it turns on again on the next boot without these programs running).

I want to disable the BT hardware (doing it in Device Manager DOES NOT do the trick), or have one of these programs run and exit automatically after turning off hardware.

There's no way to do this since the BT module turns on by default when the computer starts up. One of these apps have to be used to keep it turned off. If all you care about is leaving it off, I recommend removing SmartWi and sticking with the Wireless Switching Utility. It takes up next to no memory or CPU and will remember your on/off setting.
