Disable On-Screen Volume Indicator on Vaio TX???

I have a Sony Vaio VGN-TX790P. I will be using my laptop for presentations with music and will be changing the volume frequently. I have managed to disable the "beep" when changing the volume (thanks to this forum), but I don't know how (or if it is even possible) to disable the on-screen volume bar that pops up when using the volume buttons to change the volume. Does anyone know if this is possible or how to do this? Thanks.

 

I actually disabled mine on accident. The only way I can get it is to open media center....so I think it has something to do with an item I deleted from my startup menu. Try using Regcleaner or Startup Inspector For Windows and remove the media center tray icon from the startup menu. I suspect this is what did it.

Edit: actually...just realized the TX doesn't have media center edition..so strike that. Sorry.

 

If there's no software solution to this, you can try hardware solution. I have the Logitech dinovo laser/bluetooth and I can change the volume on the keyboard/media pad without the OSD showing up on the screen. If you get a wireless presentation device that has a volume control I guess you can do the same.

 

Outie, I was thinking that would work too and bought the Logitech Cordless 2.4 Ghz presenter (before ever posting on here). Unfortunately, the OSD still appears even when changing the volume with the presenter. There has to be a way to disable this thing. It's not built into windows. I guess it could be a hardware thing which can't be removed, but it should still be possible to disable it I would think.

I have never had the luck of playing with the TX although it is my favourite ultra portable out there.
I wasn't aware that the volume indicator was hardware based...this is very rare. But considering Sony being the only one out there to produce the coolest BIOS boot screen the the world, I wouldn't be too surprised.

Have you tried fiddling with the BIOS? If it's hardware, you're only going to get your chances there.

(I still suspect it's software. Have you ran Linux on your TX? Try a single disc Linux distribution. If it doesn't show up, it's definitely software based and you can switch it off somewhere.)

 

Sorry, I've been away with work all week. whwtan, I checked the BIOS and didn't see anything. As far as Linux goes, I don't think I want to go through that hassle for this minor issue (Though I'd like to, I've never played with Linux and don't really have the time to start now). The only other thing I can figure is that it may be part of the Vaio Event Service (like the beep which I successfully disabled by modifying the install and unchecking sounds) and there is no option to turn off the OSD. Anyone have any idea how to disable certain aspects of the Vaio Event Service? Thanks for the help everyone.
