    Hi,
I have just downloaded Firefox 3 to my sony vaio VGN-TZ38GN which i am very happy about. What I am not happy about is the warning that comes up every 30 seconds or so to tell me that:

"Following browsers were found, but not supported in Password Bank

    Too new browsers:
    Firefox 3.0 (en-GB)"

Password Bank is part of the Protector Suite Software for my VAIO's fingerprint reader. I do not use Password Bank and have no intention of doing so but I still want to use my fingerprint reader. How can I disable password bank but not the rest of Protector Suite's functionality?

    Thanks

I'm sure Firefox / Protector Suite only showed the message once when I first installed and started Firefox 3. Also saw the same messgae when first installing Firefox 2.

I've been browsing a few sites and I haven't seen the message again. These are my User Settings -> Password Bank

Actually I had the same problem as Trini (I've had it before but this was the first time the message came up repeatedly).

I'm too busy to muck around with it today, and the problem is intolerable, so after I read this article: http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2008/01/05/AR2008010500136.html I just unistalled the Protector Suite software.

I realised that it was the reason I had to click two separate messages everytime I wanted to save a password (one for UPEK and one for FF) and the article confirmed my belief that UPEK have some serious work to do.

Thus I'm protector Suite free until they come out with an updated version.

Drawback is that can't use the fingerprint login anymore :(

Advice is welcome, because other than those issues I quite liked the feature.

Oh, and there's also a reg-key edit, but I wasn't so keen (you can find it by googling). Seriously though, I shouldn't have to go diggin' through the registry to fix some other company's mistake. UPEK be gone! (whoosh)

I don't know which PSQL version you had used, but I don't seem to have this problem with the latest version (available here). It's possible to use the fingerprint login while PSQL is not running also, but the software has to be installed. Simply disable PSQLLauncher ("%programfiles%\Protector Suite QL\launcher.exe" /startup) from loading at start-up if you only want to use the fingerprint reader for login purposes. There's also an option to disable the password bank for certain browsers in Control Center -> Applications -> Password Bank, pictured below.

Thanks to all for their replies. Sorry I have taken so long to reply but I was offshore working and didn't have much time or access to the internet to reply.

Mujja, thanks for the post but I had set the same settings as you showed on your posted jpeg so that didn't help.

Drvec, I really wanted to keep the finger print reader so I didn't want to do something so drastic as uninstall PSQL. The reg key edit was a good lead and that was where I would have gone if I didn't follow bogart's advice. Based on his attached jpeg of the newest version (which was different to my version 5.8.1) I gave it a shot and installed the latest version. That has worked a charm and I have had no problems since. I didn't even have to re enter my finger prints with the new version which is 5.8.2.
