Short version. I'm trying to stop the system from wanting me to install Recovery Disc 2 upon every startup after reinstalling Windows.

About a week ago I had to format my Sony Vaio VGN-FS760/W because of this ridiculous problem is has with no longer being able to install USB drives(that's another issue for another time) I've done it often enough and knew what to expect so after running thru the recovery disc's installation of Windows and drivers, the system boots to Windows and asks for Recovery disc 2. That disc only contains all the factory programs and nothing essential to the laptop or me. I would only uninstall them immediately but rather than go thru the hassle, I choose to bypass putting the disc in. I thought that was it, however now every time I start up, my laptop boots to Windows fine and then this "System Preperation Tool" comes up talking about pre-factory release settings and I get the little popup of "Please inset Recorvery Disc 2"(which also pops open my disc drive) I can't seem to find anything in msconfig regarding disabling these. Anyone know how I can turn this off(without actually putting in the Recovery Disc of course)

Any ideas? Thanks in advance, the drive popping open is quite annoying.

Its been a while since I used the Recovery Discs... with that said, have you checked your Start Menu > Programs > Start Up folder?

Otherwise also on the System Preperation Tool, I recall on the SZ version that there is an option to close or finish the restore. I don't remember exactly what it was, but I believe it allowed you to wrap up the restore and finalize it.

As for your USB problem which led to the restoration process. Going into the Device Manager and removing and reinstalling the USB Controller drivers tends to fix that issue. Saw this type of issue on two different desktops, where they would not recognize USB flash drives or USB hard drives.
