I have a Sony Vaio VGN-A197VP. I think I have hit a key combination which has disabled all of my soft buttons; mute, volume, brightness, zoom and S1. Does anyone know if this is possible and how I can make them work again. They worked fine for months.
    Thanks

I own a similar model, 3.5 years old, no problems whatsoever, buttons never failed. Never heard of any key kombination that could disable all these. My guess is it's a pure software issue - Sony utilities/drivers failing for some reason.
BTW, mute key should work since it's hardwired to sound chip (even works for BIOS startup sound), Sony util just provides UI popup for this one.

There are some options depending on your computing skills.

*) try uninstalling/reinstalling Sony utils and special drivers (Sony Notebook Control Device, Sony Programmable I/O Control Device)

If this does not help, backup ALL your data+settings then
    *) apply Sony recovery DVDs
    or
*) do a clean Windows install + all Sony drivers/utils

No key combination would do this. What else has happened right before you noticed this? Did you install or uninstall any software? Did you perform any system tweak?
