    You can disable it...

Reinstall VAIO Event Service and choose modify.
Then uncheck "Sound" and click next.
Uncheck "Restart now". You dont need to restart.
Now use Registry Mechanic to clear reminants left behind.
You can get VAIO Event Service by downloading Sony® Notebook Utilities from Sony Web Support or from 'VAIO Recovery>Reinstall Applications or Drivers'.

I just renamed the sound file pi in C:\Program Files\Sony\VAIO Event Service and that worked for me.

    WOW

how long ago did i post this. long long ago before win vista. that post pertains to win xp

yes just like you said just delete, rename or move the 'pi' sound file out of the 'vaio event service' folder

but then you also have to mute the 'PC beep' or else when you press some certain hotkeys you here the annoying pc mainboard beeps, well at least i hear them under win vista.

even in vista if you go to application recovery.

    remove the vaio even service.
    then reinstall it.
when u go to reinstall it choose the custom installation method and uncheck teh sound field.
    voila!

If you replace the pi file instead of renaming it can you change the sound? That would be cool.
