    Hi,
my VAIO (VGN-C2Z/B) has 1 audio input, so it should automatically switch sensitivity between mic/line-in in Windows 7.

But it is always set to Microphone only, even if I am recording from external CD via cable. That's why is input signal distorted and too loud.

I tried to install original realtek drivers form sony page and also newest realtek drivers from realtek. But still I have Microphone input only (see picture).

Please, help how to switch this input into line-in (lower sensitivity).
    Thanks
    Peter

Are you sure the hardware supports such a switch? Does it even have the capability of padding the input for line in? If not you may have to resort to an external pad. They are commercially available but not cheap. Or you can easily make your own, it only involves handful of resistors and connectors.

I don“t care if it is switch or just padding. With Windows Vista I was able to record from CD line, but with Win7 the same input is too loud and distorted.

You hadn't said anything about previously having this function in Vista, hence my question of whether or not you knew it had this capability.

Obviously this is a driver issue. But if you can't find the correct driver, or a modded on, you can always resort to the external pad.

How many recording devices do you have in your Realtek based VAIOs?

I am running a modded driver. But even in the stock one there is no "line input" option for use with the external inputs. There is only a mic input, there is an option to pad it by 20 db though.

The only time I have ever seen a line input device is when there truly was a separate line input device. I have never seen a pseudo device labeled "line input" that just padded the physical mic input.

What is your modded driver and are there any advantages against standard driver?

It is the IDT driver version 1.0.6224.7. It is one Rajesh (coolguy) and I have been playing around with. No real benefits other than it does a better job of recognizing changes in headphones vs speakers and internal vs external mic switching.
