    Hi, all.
My Vaio’s battery died in warranty period, so Sony sent me a new one.
I found in Sony’s package a document “Important Part Return Information” on which reads

    1. Only parts that have not been installed, parts received DOA or parts with a core value should be returned to Sony
    2. A core charge will be billed if defective part is not returned within 45 days
    3. If the new part is installed and the part pulled from the unit is still good, but does not have a core value noted on the packing list, discard it. Do not return to Sony.

Since I can not find any information indicates that the battery is a core part with value or not. I don’t know if I should return the died one to avoid the charge.
Anyone has experience the same problem? Please share your opinion. Thanks

    1. Fix your font size.

    2. There's no harm in giving them the defective battery, so just do so. Do NOT throw your battery in the trash. If you decide to not give it to them, find a place that will recycle your battery.

Return it. Batteries aren't cheap and I'm willing to bet Sony will charge if you don't return (since then it looks like you were trying to get a free battery instead).

    Thanks, Lithus. Font size fixed.
If there’s no need to return the battery, I will disassemble it to see what cell is inside. The battery died so fast in several months.
I will certainly recycle the battery. Thank you.

Yeah, make sure you don't throw the battery into a normal trash can, because that's extremely hazardous to the environment. Your local electronic stores will probably take old batteries and recycle them. I know that Best Buy does this.

Sony told me that it was not necessary to return the battery. I think they already have a stock of the bad ones...
