    Hi guys,

I have a SV Notebook PCG-7D1M which has completely died on me!! I heard somewhere that if a battery is dead or not inserted in a Vaio it will not work at all. Please can someone confirm this for me as at first i thought it was my power supply so bought a new adaptor but it still wont work with or without the battery in. I basically just want to know if it will work just running from the mains?

    Many thanks )

I had a similar issue with my Vaio FS760/W. One day it just died on me. nothing worked - direct connection to mains wihtout battery, charging the battery for a few min and restart. it just didnt start. One thing in this period is that there used to be some activity on the power LED but it was not like it was fine and all.

anyway i thought it died. but after a couple of weeks, on a whim, i left it charging overnight. and the next day it just booted fine! I then removed the battery while it was still connected to mains and it ran well without the battery.

all this left me to think that if the battery charge goes critically low the laptop shuts down and does not work direct off the mains as well

i also have died battery too. thanks to my reckless behavior of taking care the battery lolz.

anyway, back to the topic, the battery still able to work even its not being insert into vaio for long period if you store the battery lvl at 40% and place the battery at cool temp area.

as for the battery lvl at critical, you can always customize it at VAIO Control Center under Low battery action or Control Panel > Power Option > Edit Plan Setting > Change advanced power settings > check on the Battery area.
