Not sure what the x-black feature is exactly, but the SZ45x and above all feature LED backlighting, which is the main thing that is important. I'm not sure if x-black is just their brand-name for it or whatever, but anything that is an SZ45x or above will have it.

i think x-black is the european moniker for x-brite in the us. If you search x-black you will find a 2004 review of a sony laptop that talks about x-black. Seems like its been around for a while and sony is just naming its technology by region.

Yeah, reading about x-brite and x-black, it seems like that is something that even regular Sony laptops sometimes have (some sort of coating to give better contrast, reduce glare, etc.).

On top of all that, the LED backlighting in the premium SZ models I think adds even more to that; I'm not sure if Sony has some special name for it or not, but I can at least tell you that the display on my SZ460 is fantastic (probably better than my desktop LCD display).

The name of technology is Anti-reflective screen but display manufacturers label their anti-reflective screens under a variety of trade names.

In this link have a explain about names of this tecnology .

X-Brite in North America is known as X-Black in Europe and ALL SZs have this type of glossy screen, virtually all Sony Vaio laptops do except for the business line notebooks I'm sure.
