    Hey guys,

Just wanted to ask a quick question for those who got a Blu-Ray writer with their Vaio.

Do they support 50GB Dual Layer discs? I ordered an E-series in the UK with a Blu-Ray writer so just wondering since I can't find any model information on the recorder.

    Thanks

Try device manager (right click COMPUTER from START menu).
Look under DVD/CD-ROM and your model should be there.

I can help with the Z series, and their blu-ray drives.
The older VGN-Z come with Panasonic UJ232a, which do NOT write DVD-DL. They however read off them.
The newer VPC-Z come with Panasonic UJ242a, which DO write and read DVD-DL

The Zs come with the Panasonic optics as (I think) they are the only suppliers who make 9.5mm drives; the bigger 12.7mm do not fit in the Z and I guess the design engineers wanted to keep things small and tight-packed.
Sony makes 12.7mm drives though, and that's the smallest they sell.

...Just re-read the op message and you have the E series... My bad.

Lol that is funny, a Sony laptop provides a Panasonic Bluray drive, the company who brought Bluray in to the market doesn't have a drive that fits their Vaio

But yeah I haven't got my E-series yet, still waiting for delivery. I might ask in the owners lounge if anyone has got it and knows the model number

If you have the new Z11 or Z12, YES, just wrote the recovery media on DL media.

There seems to be confusion in this thread between DVD-DL (8 gb) and BD-DL (50 gb).
