    Hi,
I am looking into getting a docking station for my SZ450. Do I have to get one from Sony? It seems like I would have to get a Sony VAIO® SZ Series Docking Station, right?
Also, if I decide not to do that, and perhaps just get a monitor to go with my SZ450, it's just a simple matter of plugging it into the port on the side right? (I think that it's a VGA port, it was a rectangle symbol beside it so I think that that is what it is)

    Hi,
If you just want to connect an external monitor via VGA the docking station may be overkill.
However if you also like to have extra USB ports, a fixed ethernet connection use an external keyboard & mouse, and the ability to drive a monitor with a DVI connection then the Sony docking station is perfect.
I have one and am very happy with it.
I bought it from Amazon, cheaper then Sony, free shipping and no tax!

    Regards,
    LucM

I recommend getting the Sony SZ docking station if you plan on using your notebook as your primary computer. The only downside with the Sony docking is that you have to use the notebook power-on switch to power on/off your notebook. The docking itself does not have a power switch!

I have a docking station. I use it on my 52" external LCD TV. It looks awesome. Of course, I use DVI connection to the external TV. Few minus is that there is no speaker output. Also, you can only use one adaptor plug, that is you must disconnect the adaptor connection from the PC and reconnect it to the docking station. Quite cumbersome.
