When building an SVZ131190X enhanced and selecting the $50 Premium Carbon Fiber Black finish the stock photo changes from a matte black Z with silver aluminum trim to a glossy carbon fiber Z with the matching black aluminum trim at the base of the screen. From what I understand this black aluminum trim is only available on the 15th anniversary preconfigured models that Sony is selling. When selecting the premium carbon fiber black finish does this gain both the glossy carbon lid and underside and black aluminum trim?
I apologize for being out of the loop but are there any rumors for when the next gen Z is coming and or any changes to the Z when Windows 8 launches next month? Any word on when the Win 8 Z will come out? Does this forum still have the Sony fairy that alludes to future releases?

What do you mean by black aluminum trim? Do you mean the engraving? I customized my Z with premium carbon fiber black color and it comes with a glossy carbon lid and the engraving.
-
I think he means the aluminium 'bar' behind the hinges that doubles as a stand when the laptop is open. I've got no clue about the color option.
-
Yes, the black bar with 15th Anniversary LE etching comes with (and only comes with) premium carbon black option.
-
Yes, I mean the aluminum bar that's at the base of the lid.
OK thanks Skyshade. And just to double check the premium carbon fiber black option also makes the compuer's lid and underside glossy? -
Yes. PCFB is glossy on top and bottom.

I stopped by the Sony store and the representative said that the customized model has a matte lid when selecting the premium carbon fiber black option. I was under the impression that when I do a CTO and select the premium carbon fiber black that it's glossy. So which is it, CTO is glossy or matte finish?

Okay I think I figured it out. Please correct me if I'm wrong.
When configuring a Vaio Z on the Sony website, the standard Carbon Fiber Black = matte brushed carbon fiber finish with silver trim on the bottom of the lid. The $50 optional Premium Carbon Fiber Black finish = glossy brushed carbon fiber finish with black 15th anniversary trim on the bottom of the lid.
As a result, with the SVZ13 generation of the Z series, Sony has eliminated the standard solid matte black finish. All black Zs now have a brushed carbon finish of some sort.
In the US the only non visible carbon finish Z is the gold configured model. -
I thought I posted these before in the Z-owners forum:
Comparing the carbon of the most popular colors! VAIO Z Series reviews
A Japanese site which has a lot of pictures comparing the two and even the other colours.

I did see those but it didn't really answer my question. Thanks for reposting them. Which is which in those photos? Is one glossy and is one matte? Or are they both the same with a different bottom trim?

In both pictures the bottom one is the Premium/Glossy carbon fiber black. Though on the Dutch webste it actually said something about it being the anniversary edition.
Just follow the link for a better explanation and some more angles. I do not own the Z-series, because I chose the S in the end, but it was a serious contender and I looked up a lot of info on it. -
Oh I'm sorry I didn't realize it was a link. (hyperlinks aren't underlined anymore like before)
I see that if you want a PMD to order it when customizing your computer with premium carbon so that the band on the back is matching in black. -
You got it. This is how US CTO works. Not the same for other regions, though, which is why this is super confusing when we have members from around the world here. -
Thanks so much for the confirmation. Makes it easier to understand now despite Sony making it so damn confusing. And of course the sales rep was telling me the CTO isn't available in glossy.
Edited to add: I went to the store and looked at the Z in person. I was surprised to find out that trim at the bottom of the screen is not brushed aluminum or metal of any type, it's actually cheap plastic that's molded to look like brushed aluminum. I was disappointed to find this corner cutting of materials on a computer of this cost and caliber.
Does Customized Z have 15th Anniversary Trim?
