Does SONY have the best contrast or what?

I owned SONY FS series w/ Xbrite (non-ECO). I love the screen and I feel that the grass looks greener LOL. Now it's time for me to buy a new NB. I'd like to buy another SONY, but to my disappointment, they only release 13.1 13.3 (which are too small for me) and 16.4 (which is somewhat a bit too big/non-standard for me). Style wise, I love them all. But I am looking for mainstream size like 14.1 or 15.4.

With that said, I was thinking to switch to HP / Dell. So I went to Bestbuy today and checked on several HP NBs. When I was there I feel that the HP screen (with Brightview tech) is not as vivid as Sony. Is this just my feeling or it's actually true that VAIO has better contrast/vivid color etc?

HP has a brightview technology screen. And the problem is it focuses on its bright (not the contrast). So when you increase the brightness, color will stay the same and you'll see the contrast is the same. On the other hand SONY, as you increased the brightness, not only it'll get brighter, but the contrast will increase too so the color will look more alive and vivid.

Somebody please correct me if I am wrong. And also with those new LCD technology display (Backlit LED), will all (HP/Dell/Sony) be equal or Sony will be the best again? Advise please.

I used to own FZ with XBrite HiColor. The contrast is just amazing. Even better than my SZ. Black is really black which makes it perfect for watching DVD. I have seen Dell screen and the contrast and color richness are nowhere near with XBrite HiColor.

And btw, the XBrite HiColor seems to have better anti glare screen. Better than SZ at least.

Sony usually makes good screens with good contrast. But they make bad ones too. I've also seen HP's with really good contrast. I've read that Dell LEDs are good too.

Generalizations like this are not always true. Each model can be different, each screensize can be different. Even some identical models can have different brands LCDs inside.

My advice would be to look for yourself or dig up some trustworthy reviews. The best review sites measure brightness and contrast in a laboratory (Notebookcheck.com and Notebookjournal.de for example).

The Macbook Air has a very good screen.

Some of the Dells 1530 are equiped with a very good LG screen.

Actually I do agree that Dell 1530 LG screen was great, I just didn't like quality and design of the rest. Also, my cheapo Dell LCD monitor is better then any of the screens I've seen on a laptop. Laptop screens just can't compete with desktop screens, it's a fact.

Yeah, the Dell 1530 with LED and 1440 x 900 resolution is supposed to be very good.

I just looked at a 24" iMac at the Apple store. Simply amazing screen. Very bright, very sharp, very desirable. ;)

Why is author only speaking of 13.3 13.1 and 16.4 screens in new series?!

There we have a 15.4 LED LCD screen with 1440x900 in BZ serie. Whats wrong with that? I am sure the screen is awesome.

i have a vaio FZ and several friends who own dell XPS 1530s..

...my vaio makes their screens look like trash. lol.. i havent seen the LED displays on the new dells, but i would think it would be better than the vaio LCDs since it's a new technology..
