They have something like $300 or $200 off if you get their extended warranty and two accessories.

Currently, Sony is having what you could call a "back to school sale", they arent advertising it as so, but a bunch of the notebooks are cheaper, such as the vaio SR, it was 105 or so dollars cheaper, plus free 2gb ram upgrade, free 160gb hd upgrade, free Office 2007, and there's also a "student promotion" that is (as limitproof mentions above) around 200 or 300 dollars off with two accesories and a warranty plan.

So for a total of 1440 or so, i got my laptop with the specs below, plus free shipping, a 70 dollar protective sony laptop case, and a 40 dollar laser mouse. My total would have been upwards of 1900 if all those dicounts were not used.

Plus i bought mine on tax free weekend, so i saved about 80-90 bucks during that!

The sale, i believe, ends on September 2, so i would act soon!

    It varies state to state.

In NY, I don't think there is a tax free weekend on all items. I know we have a so-called "tax free everyday" on clothes and shoes under $120 but that's pretty much it.

No, i meant like, if you have your student id when you are in college, you get a discount like apple offers for macs and hp notebooks.

It doesn't apply to all students but if you are a Golden Key Honour Society member, you can get 10% off from Sony Style.

I saw an expired offer (expired 2 weeks ago) for 20% off VAIO notebooks through Golden Key. I couldn't see the details on it since it was expired. It might have been only for select vaio notebooks but who knows? That would have been awesome if I got 20% off my purchase.

Tax Free weekend isnt in every state, but it was in MA the weekend of the 20th(when i ordered my SR).

Plus i got a $50 dollar statement credit on my new american express amex, and an extra year warranty.

Amex provides an extra year warranty on all electronics purchased with your card up to 5 years.

SonyStyle.com has Employee Purchase programs for certain employers (like my company) and of course the back-to-school promotions, but I believe student/education discount is handled by Sony Business Solution -- it was that way a couple years back because some school bookstores sell Sony stuff (basically, your school becomes a Sony reseller).

You might want to check with them to see if it is still this way. The down side of it is that you are limited to pre-configured models.

I wish we could have a no VAT day in the UK. I'd buy all my stuff fot the whole year in one day lol!

Sony in the UK has no student discount of any kind although I heard someone get 11% in the EU somewhere else
