Does Sony have a laptop with a dual-DVI port on it? Now or in the close future?
Is there another way to connect to a big 27" or 30" external display (except the dual-DVI) with any current or future SONY laptop?
As I know only Apple laptops have this feature .. I really don't wanna buy an apple !!!!

What about HDMI, does your display have HDMI in?
-
No, they don't.
HDMI won't let you use the full resolution on a WQXGA screen. You'll be limited to 1920x1200. The only Screens with this resolution are 30". The 27" are 1920x1200. -
I think he wants 1900*1200, I assume after reading the other thread.
-
Then what's the point of getting a 30" WQXGA screen that you need a dual-link DVI port for? The 27" will work quite allright (single-link dvi).

Maybe you have got some ideas for him. You seem to know your stuff.
His original thread is here: http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=270497 -
Yes Phil, it does.
I just discovered I could use HDMI instead of DVI on the monitor, too bad my sz780 doesn't have an HDMI, same on the docking station .. HDMI is much faster than regular DVI, but sony doesn't use it ...
So I am stock again - at least one step ahead.
I am now looking to purchase another laptop that has the power and look and weight of the SZ but with HDMI and a docking station. Still a problem, not many laptops with those feature out there .. -
Sorry to disagree with you, but DVI (single) won't do it for 1920x1200. I tried with my SZ780 also with my desktop (with a Nvidia 8800 GSX 640MB) over single-DVI and the same problem: image is fine but the response is delayed. I also tried with an integrated intel card on a dell x1330 but over HDMI and works like a charm at the same resolution. So I guess DVI is not good enough, somehow. -
Good new, the new Z series has HDMI and I expect it to have a dockingstation too.
Z series replaces the Premium SZ series. -
I have no problems with 1920x1200 over single-link dvi, both on my present HD2600 and an old P-M laptop with a 128MB X700. Or on a 64 MB FX5200. Which screen are you using?

Samsung 275T Plus, 27" 1920x1200. (inputs: dvi, hdmi, vga, etc ..)
I am really lost now, I spent my last 48 hours looking for a solution and I am more confused than ever.
I tried this monitor over my docking station (SZ780) and also with my desktop computer (as single display or multi display, both ways) and I had some delay with both computers(vista).
If you say DVI single-link is good enough than it might be the monitor. But after re-reading a tons of reviews (both personal/magazines) they all say it's the best monitor at 27". Nobody said it's feeling any delay, not even in new 3D games, a few personal "confesions" clearly expressed the mouse works like a charm with this Samsung.
I will take the monitor with me to a BestBuy store and try it over there with some other computers, what else can I do ? -
See if you know anyone else with a dvi-equipped laptop. If yes, get them to bring tha laptop, and try it.
-
Just thought of something: at what frequency are you running your display? Single-link DVI only supports up to 1920x1200 @ 60Hz
-
Well I don't know if you can work with images, but it could be interesting to write your current installation to an image, then do a clean install with XP, and see if the problem still persists. The mouse lag that annoys you may have something to do with Vista. Maybe you are just more aware of it than other people.

I don't think I ever got the full specs for your computer.
