Yesterday I dreamt that I bought a Sony laptop from Future Shop. It cost $2799.

It was a 14" laptop with high caliber specs. The form factor is what I was extremely happpy about. It was thinner than a Macbook Pro and it was sleek and sexy.

Think Dell Adamo, but 14", and sony screen etc.

Does it / will it ever exists?

I don't think so. The closest you can get from Sony is the Sony Vaio Z, which is 13-inch and is still not as slim as a MBP.

But put it in perspective: the Z may not be the thinnest (but far from a brick!), but look at what you get for the money. The one they sell at Best Buy here in the US (64-bit, 4GB memory, etc.) is a good bargain.

I was in no way bashing the Z! I think it's one of the best 13-inch laptops around, very sexy and with good power under the hood. Too bad that Sony's support here in the EU is crap, that's why I went with Dell.

After two Macbook Air(1st and 2nd gen) and selling both because of excessive heat production and various issues, I found my way back to Sony. I own a Vaio Z, a pretty impressive laptop for its size and weight. I recently also bought a Vaio P and a Vaio TT(my favorite travel laptop right now).

There is a lot of hype about the Macbook Air and yes, it looks kind of sexy and cool but there are too many quirks and I also need a laptop with built-in HSDPA modem, so the Macbook Air had to go.

The MBA has too many compromises for my taste. +1 for the Sony Z, also consider the Lenovo X300/301 (the 300 is being replaced by the 301 so it can be found cheap).
