I use a Sony Vaio Z-series laptop and had not tried the Windows 7 backup till yesterday.
I tried to back up to an external drive and the internal drive opting to choose what to back up and selected my personal folder with no system image backup. Anyway the backup fails when creating a shadow image with the error 'The system can't find the file specified' Error code 0x80070002.
The shadow copy sevice is working ok but the error is beyond me being new to windows 7. System restore is working on the system drive so what is going wrong?
As anybody using Sony Vaio's and Windows 7 had similar problems with Windows backup?

I can't speak for Windows 7 as I am still using Vista, which the Windows 7 back up program is based off. Windows Vista Back Up though works really well, giving me no reason to want to go and use anything else.
When I use Vista's built in back up I have it store my information in a Seagate Expansion 1TB external hard drive. Vista will remember if my drive is not plugged in and a back up is scheduled. It will request that I perform a back up once my external hard drive is plugged in.
I have only had the one problem. I noticed there was this media.bin file sitting in my external hard drive. I took the silly option and deleted it, later realising it was a file associated with the back up stored on the drive. Vista back up just started a back up from scratch the next time around. -

Well, it makes an entire system image, and it's worked flawlessly for me.

I've encountered repeated problems with the System Image portion of Windows Backup. It's well complained about on other forums online.
The problem is that once an image is made and then the system is restore from it, the MBR partition can end up having more spaced used up than before. The next backup errs during the creating shadow image phase because there isn't enough room in the partition for it. Couldn't find any decent solutions to the problem other than restoring from the previous image again could yield more correct results.
I'd like to see Microsoft actually have an update to keep that from happening as it's quite annoying.
Does Windows 7 backup work?
