Does anyone ever use their S400 iLink port?

I'm wondering, is the S400 iLink port still being used by anyone? I was surprised to see it on the upcoming TT model. I personally have never used it at all and don't know many devices that support it other than camcorders and old PS2 consoles. Most devices that support iLink support USB as well, so if Sony had left this out and replaced it with perhaps an eSATA port, I don't think anyone would complain.

Well, as someone who still regularly uses a miniDV camcorder and is lamenting the loss of IEEE1394 ports in laptops as a general trend, I'm personally glad Sony still keeps those in their laptops.

I use it, it's good stuff for external sound cards and audio in general.

Can anyone recommend an eSata Expresscard for the Vaio?

I find it irritating that the iLink port isn't powered. I have only one device which is firewire and which I find incredibly useful - a SanDisk Extreme Firewire Compact Flash reader (the only card reader which reads modern pro-spec CF cards at their full speed, from my experience).

However, this device is bus-powered (or "plugs and plays without an AC adapter", as it helpfully explains in the marketing blurb") - so is useless on my Z. :(

I have to make do with a crappy old USB2 reader instead...

Hence, if it was 'proper' firewire, I'd use the iLink port. As it is, it's useless and I would have found eSata more useful.
