Sony, like most all notebook manufacturers, does not manufacture it's own LCD's, but get's them from a bunch of different sources like LG, Samsung or others.

    Hope that helps.

Xbrite I'm guessing. Fujitsu also has a similar technology which makes the screen glossy.

but the Xbrite coating is made by third parties too isn't it if the screen is made by others?

What makes the sony screen so brighter, sharper, high contrast, better viewing angles, less light leakage etc if everyone gets third parties to make their screens?

You pay for what you get. Sony probably pays to make sure the screens are engineered for minimal light leakage and such, where as someone like say Acer or Dell just might not care to meet their price points.

I think it's Samsung, considering they're in bed with them for TVs. Call it a hunch.

differentiators are the panel, the backlighting, the drivers, the light distributing film(sorry i don't know what it's called), and the coating..among other things.
