I just want to know if a keyboard cover is needed between the keyboard and display when the cover is closed to keep the keys from leaving marks on the display. I'm really enjoying this thing!

Doesn't appear to touch. I can actually see light between the display and keyboard when I have mine closed. Had it about a month now and haven't noticed any screen marks. Although I have been considering one of those microfibre screen/keyboard protectors that I can use to clean my screen when I'm out and about.

It doesnt. But the VAIO Logo sure does mess up quickly which is right above the lights.

Not mine too. But, considering where to get those? It could save your life when you spill something.

IT does not touch in normal use. But what is problematic is the mouse/touchpad area. Again, in normal use they do not touch. But, I had an accident, almost on the first day of using it.
I dropped the notebook from 1m high on concrete and it fell on the edge, between a desk and metal bar and stay upright. However, it seems that during that it hardly pressed the scren to the touchpad and now I have viisble scars from the touchpad and buttons edges. Luckily for clumsy me, they are not visible when screen is on, only when it is off and you turn it toward light source.
Oh, and - notebook was in Incase sleeve I bought for 20pounds in London's Apple Store. It's made for iBook 14" and PowerBook 12" but fits nice for the SZ. The sleeve contained most of the hit - like I said it fell straight down, right on the edge - and there was no damage done, apart from these scars.
From then, supplied cover that goes between screen and keyboard is a must wherever I go. -
That's why I always use the red styrofoam layer material that comes with it when i carry it around in my bag. Heavy object pressing the screen might cause the keyboard to touch the screen.

I suspect that, when the SZ is lying flat in the backpack with other books on top of it, the screen is getting pressed against the keyboard and leaving these marks. I'm in Vegas this weekend, but when I get home I'm going to see if the marks come off with Monster ScreenClean and a microfiber (80% polyester 20% polyamide) cloth. -
Of course, as soon as I carried the SZ in my backpack with other papers and books on top of it, the keyboard marks on the screen began appearing again. -
I bought the Oakley Vertical Computer Bag 2.0, and apart from sitting the SZ quite well, its looks really good. Lots of useful secret pockets in it as well.
Does the SZ display touch the keyboard when closed?
