I'm strongly considering getting this laptop, but I've been hearing a lot about this computer having washed out faded-looking colors instead of a bright vivid screen. How bad is it, really?

If so, do you know of any other Sony VAIOs that have better screens?

There are different screens depending on which country you order in and whether you get the premium HD screen or cheaper options.

The European premium screen is supposed to be quite good. There are rumors that the US F13 premium screen is much better than the previous F models but only a couple people have seen it. You can search the F owners lounge for lots of opinions on the various screens and polls as well.

I'm in the United States and I'd get the Full HD 1920x1080.

It sucks that the European models are better than the US models. They also offer a solid state drive, which is not available with US models.

I have a US F12 - if you switch off the Sony auto display function and then calibrate - it hugely improves the screen and looks like its HD. In original settings it does look washed out.

I would be really interested to learn if the new US F13 has a different screen.

Today I went to Best Buy and saw a VAIO F13 and EB side by side. The colors on the F looked more faded than the colors on the EB. Disappointing.

You might want to take note that the VAIO F models sold by BestBuy only contain the "regular" (1600x900) Display and not the "better" Full HD (1920x1080) Premium Display. :)

    True.

I guess that's part of what I'm wondering. Does the better Full HD display have better color? (If I got the laptop, I would definitely be getting the Full HD screen).

What I've read in the F series owners' lounge (threads 1-3ish) the screens initially are washed out a bit. With proper color calibration, or finding a good calibration from someone else, the screen improves greatly. I'd have gone for the full HD screen could I have afforded it.
