My sister was vistiting from the US and brought her sony vaio purchased in the US with her. She had some DVD's here which she didn't want to carry but to be put on the computer.
The first one which was region free, ther was no prblem with but the second one which was region for europe just wouldent copy to the HD. I tride a few ripping programms but it still didn't work.

Does sony have some system built into there computers hindering me to do this.

Your ripping programs didn't work because of built in dvd drive. It isn't region free and it's locked to the region where the laptop has been sold.
The solution for your problem is to rip a movie on your pc using for example AnyDVD + CloneDVD and to copy a region free rip to your laptop.
