Read a thread on upgraded HD on the Z - it was a relatively short thread without any concensus.

Does anyone know definitely if upgrading the HD myself void the warranty - IF I do not damage anything?

    Thanks,
    UL

Yes, if anyone but an authorized repair center opens the case, the warranty is voided.

The only changes you are allowed to make are changing the battery and RAM (provided you use Sony original batteries and RAM from the compatibility list).

if you can revert your change before sending it back to the repair center to repair, it doesn't matter. Therefore, keep your original harddisk.

As long as you don't break any seals you can argue it to and fro with Sony ;)

What compatibility list for RAM? - I'm not aware of one, and in the end it doesn't really matter which RAM you use.
(Except I think when you went for 4GB modules on the Z where you need one with a low power consumption)

That's another options as long you don't break any seals :)
