Anyone out there successfully run Doom3 on an A Series with a 9700 ATI Mobility graphics card? I've tried, experienced system freezes and was wondering what settings you've used. I do not want to dabble in changing graphics card drivers unless I have to. Thanks!

well i dont have a sony but i may have an answer to your problem, the Stock video driver manufacters include with the system really arent ment for games, you will have to update the drivers.

    Use the latest Omega drivers

    Im using a Redeon 9600 128mb

As Ajvett mentioned, try using the Omega Drivers from www.omegadrivers.net and follow the instructions in the Readme file. You will have problems if you don't follow the instructions.

Another thing you can try, is to goto ATI's site and download the 4.9 beta drivers. These were released specifically for Doom 3 compatibility/performance.

ATI's drivers from there site dont work on Mobile cards you could try modding the INF file, so they will install. goto Driver Heaven and download the mobility modder.

    MW Sony,

If you are still having trouble try ending some processes in the task manager. The first few times I ran Doom 3 on my A190 it was slow and froze regularly. I looked in to the task manager at my processes and found that a lot of the preinstalled software (NIS, Vaio Media & Giga Pocket etc) monitor network connections. I had 56 processes running and managed to shrink this to 25 (with good stability) just by getting rid of some of the unnecesary programs that I don't use when gaming.... If I do this every time I play, Doom 3 is running fine along with some of my other games that were a bit jerky before. This was without the Omega Drivers by the way. Hope this helps.

    Peanutt uses
    Sony TR1MP / Sony A190 (New) / Toshiba E805 PPC / Sony Ericsson P900

Yep, all Sony A series owners should install the updated video drivers from the Sony site. On my old A190, I couldn't even run 3D Mark03 until I installed them.
